Julie Symons

After playing Hacky Sack for about 5 years, in 1985 Julie discovered footbag, when she first arrived on campus at UC Berkeley. There she met Brent Welch, Bill Langbehn, and several other on Sproul Plaza. They invited her to their kicking sessions, they played net and freestyle, and they organized tournaments.

Since then, Julie has been going to footbag tournaments every year, including 20 World Footbag Championships, mostly in the US, but also Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, and Poland.

Her world-titles include women’s doubles net, mixed net, women’s singles net, footbag golf, women’s team freestyle, women’s doubles distance one-pass, and a Women’s Overall title. Symons was a founding member of the IFPA, serving as its Executive Director, and currently stands as the IFPA Secretary.
