Scott Davidson
Scott Davidson was one of the top freestyle footbag players in the 1990s, a World Footbag Champion, and a member of the Big Add Posse, a group of the greatest freestyle footbag players in the world. He was known for pushing the cross-body concept (clippers, osis) to new levels during his many years in the sport.
Scott began playing footbag in the Chicago area in the mid-1980s. Heavier-set when he started, Davidson used footbag to not only improve his coordination, but also to slim down to the carved athlete he is known as today. In the mid-to-late 80s, he began his competitive career, attending various footbag events for freestyle. Scott’s unique style and laser-focus on the sport gained him a great amount of attention. He became one of the best and most well-known Midwest freestylers during that time.
By the early 1990s, Davidson was an established force in freestyle footbag. He traveled to and competed in many tournaments, including the World Footbag Championships. Scott either won or placed high in nearly every tournament he competed in. He became an outstanding performer, delivering many memorable routines over the years.
Scott’s noted inspirations in the sport were footbag legends Kenny Shults and Rippin’ Rick Reese, to name a few.
Scott built one of the earliest Chicago footbag groups, The Alpha Schwa Omega Footbag Club. Here, he would host tournaments for the Midwest for many years. Davidson promoted footbag not only in his area, but also around the world. He is considered to have made the first freestyle footbag video called Alpha Schwa Omega. This video documented several freestyle events, including the World Footbag Championships (multiple years), the legendary Holidome Jam at Worlds, and the Michigan Jam. The video starred such footbag icons as Kenny Shults, Rick Reese, Peter Irish, Tim Kelly, Sam Conlon, Scott, and more. Along with Kenny Shults’s Tricks of the Trade instructional video, the Alpha Schwa Omega video helped usher in a new generation of players for the 1990s.
Scott married Valeria Davidson who he went on to perform many footbag shows and organize events with.
After taking several top 8s at the World Footbag Championships and increasing his freestyle skills, in 1995, Scott Davidson was inducted into the Big Add Posse in 1995. His fellow inductees were Eric Wulff, Tuan Vu, Greg Nelson, Steve Kremer, and Josh Casey. Scott’s BAP nickname was ‘The Enlightener’ due to his teaching of tricks and concepts to others.
In 1999, Scott won his first Freestyle World Champion title in Open Routines in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. When it was announced that he won, his friends in the crowd rushed the stage to congratulate him for his long-due win.
He continued to win other events such as west coast, Midwest, and east coast competitions. With fellow BAP member and Footbag Hall-of-Famer Tuan Vu, he won Doubles Freestyle Routines at the 2023 World Footbag Championships. He then won it again with Tuan Vu at the World Footbag Championships in 2024 in Montreal, Quebec. Along with Kenny Shults, Tuan Vu, Peter Irish, Jim Penske, Lon Smith, and Chris Siebert, Scott had a long-running and successful career in the sport of footbag.
He attended the World Footbag Championships and hosted the Midwest Regional Footbag Championships for twenty years straight, from 1985 to 2004, and continued to attend Worlds occasionally after that.
Davidson was highlighted in many videos, news segments, and articles. He performed footbag on the Sally Jessy Raphael Show which aired nationally. He also co-starred in the legendary freestyle footbag video Raw Shred: Tales of the Big Add Posse by Paul Munger.
When Scott turned 40 in 2006, he started playing footbag every day, and is now over 6589 days in a row (as of 1/2/2025), an outstanding and ongoing achievement.
Scott continues to inspire thousands with his relentless dedication to the sport of footbag. For this, he was inducted into the Footbag Hall of Fame in 2006.
