Scott Milne

Scott Milne saw his first hack at Willows Beach in Victoria in 1981. Tim Macdonald and Robert(?) and Scott Lewis were disc freestyle competitors who also kicked. It was a three-panel “Royal Kicker.” He was hooked.

Five years later he managed to track down the maker of the Royal Kicker in Vancouver. He pestered Jim Anderson for months until he finally taught him how to make one. It did not take long for him to start making a little cash at it.

Eventually he moved over to Vancouver and found out where the guys were playing hack over the net. He became totally addicted to Footbag Net, moved into the same neighbourhood, dropped everything else he ever did, and only played footbag for the next 20 years.

His first Worlds were in ’88 in Colorado. He did up to 16 tournaments a year for about 16 years. He performed more than 1,400 school assemblies for the WFA and the Canadian Footbag Alliance. He bought the Kanga design from Dave Robinson in the early 1990s, and designed a bunch of other footbags that are still made and sold today.

At Worlds he had a couple of second- and third-place finishes in mixed doubles net, doubles net, and team freestyle, along with a world title in distance one pass.

He was a founding member of the Kits Kickers. He could go on and on about all the great people he met who he can now call friends, all because of the fantastic sport of footbag. People like the Welches, McDaniels, Montes, Symonses, Lewises, Bouchards, Shultses, Georges, Hugheses, and so many others put him up over the years, picked him up at the airport, fed him, beered him, and more. So many are not listed here, but he thanks them all.

Long live the Hack.

Bust a lace.
